By the late 70's, there were a few post punk bands in the UK labeled the gothic wonders these bands not knowing at the time they would truly shape the foundation on which gothic clothing would strive to be one of the forefront of the goth subculture and ultimately help to bring gothic clothing as a wave of the future for anyone who would want to step on board. However, it was not until the early 1980s that gothic rock became its own subgenre within the post punk era gothic rock began changing and shaping the modern way of music and the way people think about music and during this time it was amazing to see these gothic punk bands wearing gothic clothing and obtaining the followers that would follow them around the ends of the earth. An opening of a club called the bat cave in London's soho in july 82 was a great place for the gothic subculture and gothic clothing people to meet and flourish.

After the waning in popularity of punk area in which people would rock gothic clothing on a nightly basis to different ventures the subculture started to diversify by the means of music and by the means of the gothic clothing that they would be wearing. This would cause various in the types of goths, the mindset is reflected in each of these styles of goth. And finally different scenes would start to mend and mold to their own gothic style and this would be the forefront on the way gothic clothing would endure the lashings of time.
